What is the Great Places in America designation?

The Great Places designation is the gold standard in America’s Neighborhoods, Streets, and Public Spaces, as determined by the American Planning Association (APA).

Each year, APA recognizes outstanding people, planning work, and places — representing the best in planning and community impact.

Uptown Greenwood was recognized as a Great Neighborhood for 2017, the second in the state of South Carolina to be named in this category, along with Beaufort Historic District.

Other Great Places in SC include the Great Streets designees of Main Street, Greenville, Broad Street, Charleston, and King Street, Charleston and the Great Public Place designee, Waterfront Park, Charleston.
