Progress At Greenwood Community Theatre

The Greenwood Community Theatre began an extensive renovation in 2006 as a part of the Emerald Triangle Project.  The goal of the renovation project is to provide a state-of-the-art performance venue for the Greenwood community.  Renovations will be completed in February 2007.  The theatre will be the home of our community players but will also serve as a choice for films, lectures, presentations, and as a performance stage for a variety of other acts.  Below are various photographs reflecting upon the current renovation project.

Do you remember when?  The Greenwood community has worked very hard to maintain the original character of Greenwood's "State Theatre"  during the current renovation.

Representatives from the City of Greenwood, Rainbow Signs, DSP Architects and Greenwood Community Theatre are all smiles Monday after the theater’s shiny new marquee is installed. From left are: Charlie Barrineau, assistant Greenwood city manager; Jim Harmon, CEO of Rainbow Signs; Steve Brown, Greenwood city manager; David Byars, Greenwood Community Theatre board of directors; Bess Park Reynolds, Greenwood Community Theatre artistic/executive director and Joe Prothro of DSP Architects. “This marquee is our greatest marketing tool for keeping people informed about what’s happening at the theater,” Reynolds said.

Albert Burnett, of Cullum Electrical in Greenwood, steadies the ladder for co-worker Brian Shirley who was busy Monday installing lights inside Greenwood Community Theatre. David Byars with GCT’s board of directors said people have been stopping by the theater to see renovations in progress. Work at the theater is part of the Emerald Triangle Project in Uptown Greenwood.

Tight squeeze...workers bring in the new lighting "catwalk" through the back door.  The catwalk has been installed above a new lowered ceiling.

Inside the Theater, extensive work has been done including sound, lighting, refurbishment of the chairs, new paint, new carpet, sound treatments, and a complete overhaul of the stage!
