| Jessica Beasley, manager in charge at Firehouse Subs, on the S.C. 72 Bypass next to Starbucks, said she is excited for the restaurant to participate in an Uptown Greenwood function.
"We recently participated in a Cruise-In and it was a blast," Beasley said. "We are looking forward to Live After 5 and Taste of Greenwood."
Among the tasty offerings will be Firehouse Subs' signature "hook and ladder" hot sub, piled high with smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham and Monterey Jack cheese, served "fully involved." (The Firehouse Subs franchise was started by firefighters in Jacksonville, Fla).
Other participating restaurants will have some of their signature items, too. A full menu was not available by press time.
Live After 5, a free concert series, was introduced in Greenwood during the summer of 1998.
Traditionally, the final concert of the season is paired with the "Taste of" event, according to Angie Jones, manager of the Uptown Greenwood Development Corp.
In the past, the event has been dubbed "Taste of Uptown," but this year, Jones decided to broaden the scope and call it "Taste of Greenwood," to include businesses that are located within the City of Greenwood as well as Uptown.
Thursday's Live After 5 concert marks the final one for the 2008 season.
It's sure to be a crowd-pleaser with The Tams, a rhythm and blues/beach music band that's been entertaining audiences for more than 40 years.
If you don't know The Tams by name, you've likely heard some of their biggest hits: "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy" and "What Kind of Fool."
According to The Tams' Web site, www.thetams.com, the group has been inducted into the Beach Music Hall of Fame and performed with the likes of Jimmy Buffet, Gladys Knight, Jackie Wilson, Jerry Butler and The Drifters.
Hack Bartley, artistic director for the Live After 5 series, said attendance at this year's concerts has been "phenomenal."
"The community response to these free concerts has been great," Bartley said. "And, Thursday's show should be no exception. The Tams are absolutely fantastic entertainers. The Live After 5 program has grown, and I appreciate the City of Greenwood and Uptown (Development Corp.) having so much confidence in me."
The corporate sponsor for Thursday's Live After 5 is Davis and Floyd. In addition to The Tams, the audience will also be entertained by students from Merrywood Elementary School.
