Board Supports Passage of Alcohol Referendum

October 18, 2012

Greenwood, SC -   The Uptown Greenwood Development Corporation’s Board of Directors has voted to support passage of the upcoming Sunday alcohol referendum.

Board Chairman Sammy Nasrollahi said it was an easy decision. “Our mission is to promote economic development in the city and a yes vote on November 6 will provide a real boost to the economy,” he said.

“We will see new jobs created and extra work for local businesses that supply goods and services to restaurants. The city will gain new revenue from the permit fees that restaurants pay, along with additional Hospitality and Business License tax revenues,” he said.

“A yes vote will give us an edge in our economic development efforts. We are aware of several restaurants that are watching this vote closely. We are also working hard to bring a hotel Uptown, to replace the Inn on the Square,” Nasrollahi said.

“A yes vote will help bring more visitors to our community. Voters in the city of Newberry recently approved Sunday sales and we have all seen the impact on other cities in our area. More visitors mean more business for local merchants, which means a stronger Greenwood and that’s good for everyone.

“On Tuesday, November 6, we encourage city voters to say yes to more choices, yes to boosting our economy, yes to improving our economic development efforts and yes to a stronger, more vibrant Uptown,” Nasrollahi said.
