Railroad Museum Estate Auction Sat April 18

Greenwood, SC - Lakelands Auction Services and The Museum will be hosting an estate sale Saturday, April 18 featuring items from the Railroad Historical Center Property.
The sale, which starts at 2 p.m., will include items formerly housed at the Railroad Historical Center and collected by the late Angelle Adams of Greenwood.
Those items included antique furniture, Depression glass, pottery, china, art collectibles, dolls, hats, toys and railroad memorabilia.
The sale is part of the long-term development plan for the site.
Those plans eventually will include the renovation of the seven historic train cars as well as the house and gardens.
"The current conditions in the house simply are not conducive for long-term artifact preservation," said Matt Edwards, The Museum's executive director.
The sale of the house's contents is a way to ensure antiques and artifacts don't deteriorate beyond their usefulness.
While most of the house's contents will be auctioned off, Edwards notes "we've spent a great deal of time sorting through the house and saving the historically significant items for our collection."
Among those hidden treasures were the original architect's blue prints for the Southern Railway depot that once stood Uptown, and the track engineer's elevations and construction photos from the Georgia and Florida Line that was built from Augusta to Greenwood in the late 1920s.
There will be a ticketed auction preview party on Friday. Tickets are $20 per person and include a catered barbecue meal and drinks.

The Railroad Museum Historical Center became part of The Museum in 2005, after 35 years as a privately run railroad history museum.
The Railroad Historical Center was originally opened by L.B. Adams and Charlie Herndon for the South Carolina Tricentennial as a way to preserve a bit of Greenwood's railroad history.
