Greenwood, SC - Dozens of local crafters gathered in Uptown on Saturday at a craft fair the organizer said she hopes will continue to grow.

Sandy Smith, of Two Old Bags and The Beaded Palm, said she organized the event to give local crafters an opportunity to sell their products to local people.

"Crafters tend to give things to their family and friends, but after a while you build up an awful lot of stuff, and you think 'Who am I going to give this too?’” she said.

The craft fair is an opportunity for the artists to make some money and supplement their income or, if nothing else, feed their hobby, Smith said.

About 25 crafters, displaying jewelry, clothing, pens, purses, pillows and paintings, filled the parking area in front of Two Old Bags and The Beaded Palm from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Everybody's got something a little bit different," Smith said.

John Rawski, a pen maker from Honea Path, said the day was successful, and he enjoyed the social aspect ofthe small town craft show.

"When you have a local event like this, people learn what other people in the area do," he said.  "Plus it's a chance to meet and greet."

Angie Deale brought her mother to the event, and she said it was nice to be able to have lunch in Uptown and then enjoy the fair.

"I think it's wonderful.  Anything that brings people to Uptown is wonderful.  And I wanted to support the local crafters," she said.

Greenwood crafter Katie Lovvorn said the fair was her most successful show so far in terms of sale volume.

"It's great to have something where my friends and family can come by," she said.

Smith said she was thrilled with the turn out for the fair and hopes to hold an even larger event in October.  Anyone interested in participating can contact he or Susan Smith at (864) 229-0814.

"I'm dreaming big.  I'm thinking big.  This isn't going to be the last time we do this," she said.
