-
- The crew shot the film’s opening scenes at House of Barbers on Waller, with actors decked out in World War II-era attire.

The man is then called off to World War II and the child is put up for adoption. The movie follows the man’s efforts to get out of the war alive and get home to find his child.
Actor Michael Lay, 19, of Augusta, plays the film’s main character, “Richard.” Lay said he has fairly extensive stage experience, however, “Third on a Match” marks his first leading film role.
“I was on the stage for five years, mostly high school, competitions and traveling shows,” Lay said. “This is the first feature film I’ve done. I’m surprised to have such a large role in this. That’s part of the reason there is such a nervousness, because I’m right there in the spotlight on my first time.”
Meanwhile, Spartanburg’s Heather Rothrock, a 19-year-old Converse College student, plays “Rosa,” the movie’s female lead and the character who eventually marries Richard and bears his child.
“I’m so excited, this is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Rothrock said. “This is my first time doing a movie like this.”
Rothrock said she has acted in live productions and said she got the part after responding to a casting call by Newman.
The young actress admitted she is anxious about upcoming scenes which will require a great depth of emotion.
“I’m definitely nervous about those scenes,” she said. “But, when the time comes, I’ll get into the moment.”
“Third on a Match” will continue filming locally through April.
