Greenwood, SC - With construction well under way on 10 properties along Maxwell Avenue in Greenwood, work is nearly set to commence on the next phase of facade upgrades Uptown.
On Wednesday, the Greenwood Board of Architectural Review (BAR) approved color schemes and other details for four buildings set to receive facade work along Main Street. The buildings currently house McCaslan’s Book Store, Gentlemen’s Choice, Two Old Bags and The Floral Case and are at 202-208 Main St.

“The BAR considered (the appropriateness of) paint colors and various other aspects of the facades, such as trim, doors and awnings,” Greenwood assistant city manager Charlie Barrineau said Thursday.
The facade enhancement program Uptown is set to see 23 buildings along Maxwell and Main get facelifts. A large portion of the project’s cost is being provided by a grant from the S.C. Department of Commerce’s Rural Infrastructure Opportunity Grant Program.
The property owners participating are required to provide a $2,000 match on the money, bringing the minimum amount spent per building to $22,000. However, Barrineau said many property owners have chosen to put more than the required $2,000 into the work.
Town and Country has been contracted to do the construction on the project. Barrineau said work could begin on the four Main Street buildings within two to three weeks.
“We are looking to be done well before the holiday season,” Barrineau said.
He said the next group of buildings to receive facade upgrades are on the lower end of Maxwell.
