New Strategy of City Center Master Plan Begins, Cultural Website Goes Live
December 12, 2008
Greenwood, SC - With 4 years of construction outlined in the Greenwood City Center Master Plan winding down in spring of 2009, one may ask ‘what’s next?’ That answer is simple – market the City Center as a cultural destination for Greenwood, the Lakelands region, and the State of South Carolina.
| The first step of a new marketing effort began this week with the unveiling of a new cultural arts website – emeraldtriangle.sc. The new website combines the web content and event calendars for the Greenwood Arts Council, Greenwood Community Theatre (GCT), and The Museum into one central, easy to access location. |

| While the content is combined, each organization continues to maintain their existing online identity – www.greenwoodartscouncil.org, www.greenwoodcommunitytheatre.com, and www.greenwoodmuseum.org. The existing web addresses will simply link into the new website.
“This is another positive example of the arts community working together to leverage our combined strength,” said GCT Executive Director Bess Park. “The new website is a simple one-stop-shop for the arts in Greenwood,” Park concluded.
The site also features the cluster of arts based businesses that are emerging in and around Uptown Greenwood. Arts based businesses that have opened in Uptown Greenwood since the Master Plan’s adoption include Taylor Galleries, Jon Holloway Photography, Two Old Bags Scrap Booking and the Beaded Palm, and most recently Meridian, a collection of 12 artists studios/shops featuring jewelry makers, bookmakers, painters, and more.
Local artists have also taken residency in the Arts Center at the Federal Building. They include Dot Moore, Marianne Lenti, and Skip Shelton.
Many of these businesses are now offering workshops and classes on everything from making ‘hot glass’ beads to painting.
“Creating the artist based economy cluster is critical to our overall goal of increasing the number of specialty retail and restaurant establishments in the Uptown,” said Assistant City Manager Charlie Barrineau. “These new businesses will seek Uptown Greenwood as the arts based entertainment options continue to grow,” Barrineau said.
The site was designed by Columbia, SC based VC3 (http://www.vc3.com).
Since the Master Plan’s adoption, public/private investment made in the Emerald Triangle District is over 10 million dollars. This total includes investments made in the Arts Center at the Federal Building, the Greenwood Community Theatre and The Museum and streetscape improvements along Oregon and Maxwell Avenues.
