Oak Avenue/Main Street Streetscape
May 2013 - Greenwood citizens should begin to see increased construction activity on Oak Avenue & Main Street (the small section from W. Court to Oack) beginning in July 2013. This project will be placed for bid in May 2013 and will include new sidewalk installation, to include brick paver insets to match the sidewalk improvements already completed throughout the Uptown. It also includes the installation of new pedestrian level decorative street lights, relocating untilities underground, decorative crosswalks, road paving and new landscaping.
Construction is anticpated to begin in mid July 2013.
West Court Avenue Streetscape
August 2011 - Greenwood citizens should begin to see increased construction activity on West Court Avenue beginning in September 2011. The construction will occur from the intersection of Main/West Court all the way to the Greenwood County Courthouse. During construction, there may be times when parts of the street are closed to traffic.
AOS Specialty Services of Columbia has been awarded this project which includes new sidewalks, new decorative lighting, relocating utilities underground, new decorative crosswalks, and new landscaping.
Construction is anticpated to begin in late September/early October with a goal completion date sometime around Christmas. Please be prepared for lane closures and slower traffic in this area.
April 2012 - This project is COMPLETE.
South Main Street Construction (in front of Library)
January 2011 - Greenwood citizens should expect to see increased construction along South Main Street Uptown Greenwood in front of the new Greenwood County Library beginning next week.
Town & Country Construction of Greenwood has been awarded the sidewalk and center median construction. The contract includes new sidewalk installation in front of the library, to include brick paver insets to match the sidewalk improvements already completed throughout the Uptown. It also includes the installation of new pedestrian level street lights. In addition, the project includes the installation of two raised medians on South Main Street, which will include new landscaping.
Town & Country is anticipating that construction will begin on Monday, January 10th. Main Street will remain open throughout construction. However, please be prepared for lane closures and slower traffic in this area.
August 2011 - The majority of work for this project has been completed. The new library, sidewalks, and planted medians are an asset to both the City & the new Greenwood County Library. Citizens can expect to see some minor construction occurring in the area as some last minute items are being completed. This may include some temporary lane closures at times.
September 2011 - This project is COMPLETE.
Long Alley Facades/Maxwell Parking Lot Improvement
June 2010 - A new project began this summer along Long Alley in Uptown Greenwood. 10 buildings will receive facade improvements along the Long Alley exterior including 302 Main (Thayers), 308 Main (H H Turner Jewelers), 312 Main (Future R3 Catering), 314 Main (Rugs of Distinction), 318 Main (Rudd's), 322 Main (Vacant), 324 Main (Western Carolina Products), 326 Main (K-Beauty Supply), 328 Main (Polo's/Mabry Sanders Insurance).
Work will also include upgrades to the City Parking Lot on Maxwell Avenue at the intersection of Monument Street. The parking lot will be redesigned to include landscaping to soften the appearance of the large surface parking lot. This work is scheduled to begin around August 2010.
February 2011 - Construction on the parking lot has been completed, with new lighting, landscaping, and a newly paved lot.
May 2011 - Construction on the rear facades of the buildings on Long Alley has begun. Nine buildings from Thayers to Polo's/Mabry Sanders will recieve a facelift courtesy of a Department of Commerce grant and indvidual owner contributions.
August 2011 - Construction on the facades looks great with several buildings nearing completion, and others just beginning. Our hope is to complete this project by early to mid-November, prior to the Christmas season.
January 2012 - This project is COMPLETE.
