3rd Annual click646 is Sept 30 and Oct 1

Greenwood, SC - Keynote speakers Keith Carter, Jason Lindsey and Ian Summers will share their images and ideas at the third annual Click646 photographic collective in Uptown Greenwood on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. The event will also feature workshops, portfolio reviews, food, music and the Second Annual Scholastic Invitational Contest and Exhibit.
Click646 gets its name from 29646, one of Greenwood’s zip codes. The event is both a celebration of the photograph and recognition of the power of the photograph to inspire thought, conversation and action relating to world issues.

Click646 made its debut in 2009 with special guests Christina Mittermeier, International League of Conversation Photographers founding executive director; Keith Cardwell, a UK photographer best known for his Cuban works; and Joyce Tenneson, who has been described as "one of America's most interesting portrayers of the human character" as well as one of the ten most influential women photographers in history.
The 2010 event featured renowned photographers Cig Harvey and Ann Jastrab of the prestigious Maine Photographic Workshops, photographer and blogger Melanie McWhorter and Ben Ham, a Hilton Head-based photographer known for his stunning, large format black and white images.
“We are equally excited about the photographers who will be with us this year,” says jon holloway, Click646 founder. “They are all amazing artists with a lot to share about their works and careers.”
The event will open on Friday, Sept. 30, from 6-11 p.m. with exhibits at the (Greenwood) Museum, the Arts Council at the Federal Building, and sundance gallery. Opening receptions at all venues will feature desserts, and there will be a “Taste of Greenwood” food court and live music featuring Kyle Andrews on Maxwell Avenue. Adding to the festivities will be photographic projections on buildings in the Maxwell Avenue area. Events Friday are FREE and open to the public.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, Uptown galleries will be open to the public for free from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Galleries at the Arts Council will feature photographs chosen for the Scholastic Invitational exhibit. Eleven colleges from across South Carolina have been invited to submit the very best work from their current students and faculty: Anderson University, Clemson University, College of Charleston, Converse College, Furman University, Greenville Technical College, Lander University, North Greenville College, Piedmont Technical College, Winthrop University and the University of South Carolina.
“It’s our goal that educators and students will use this annual event as an opportunity to gather together and create friendships and collaboration between other schools from S.C.,” said holloway.
Activities continue into Saturday with portfolio reviews, workshops and speakers.

Ian Summers, a well-rounded artist and creativity coach will hold both portfolio reviews and a Creativity Workshop. Summers has written 14 books and has taught at Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design and New School of Social Research.

Other workshops will be offered by Upstate South Carolina photographers Randy Pace, who will present on digital montage, and Owen Riley, who will hold a presentation/mini-workshop on tintype.
Speaker Jason Lindsey is a former art director who understands both the creative and the business side of photography. He has worked with commercial and editorial clients including Anheuser Busch, Texas Tourism, Disney Publishing, Outside Magazine and Smithsonian Magazine.
Keynote speaker Keith Carter will present at Greenwood Community Theatre at 8 p.m. An artist and educator, Carter is internationally recognized for his photographs that transform ordinary people, animals and objects into dreamlike “poetry of the ordinary.” He holds the endowed Walles Chair of Art at Lamar University Beaumont, Texas, and is the Lamar University Faculty Lecturer and the 2010 TSUS Regents Professor. He is the recipient of the Lange-Taylor Prize from The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, and The Texas Medal of Arts.
