Greenwood, SC - Greenwood's own Ashby Stokes brings the sound of the season to Greenwood Community Theatre during tonight's acoustic Christmas show in Uptown Greenwood.
The show starts at 8 p.m. and is a benefit for the theatre. Tickets are $10. Seating is general admission.
Stokes will be playing songs off his solo Christmas CD, "Acoustic Christmas," which was released about 10 years ago.
He's working on a second Christmas CD and will perform songs that will be on that release.
"The songs I'll be playing will mostly be traditional Christmas music," Stokes said.
Some of those songs will include "What Child is This?," "The First Noel" and "Little Town of Bethlehem."
"I'll play several original compositions as well," said Stokes, a member of The Swingin' Medallions and his own Ashby Stokes Trio.
"Some of the newer songs are more of the Chet Atkins' style," Stokes said, noting more of those songs are "Sleigh Ride" and "I'll be Home for Christmas."
"Those are more Christmas standards," Stokes said. "It's a new sound. I'm looking forward to it."
Accompanying Stokes will be guitarist Justin Gilbert, who is also a member of The Swingin' Medallions.
"He's a great finger style guitarist," Stokes said.
Stokes is known for his appearances around Greenwood including stops at Stokie's, The Dock, Sports Break and Uptown Sushi Bar as well as private parties.
"Acoustic Christmas" CDs will be available at the show. For information about Ashby, visit www.ashbystokes.net.
