West Court Avenue Streetscape
August 2011 - Greenwood citizens should begin to see increased construction activity on West Court Avenue beginning in September 2011. The construction will occur from the intersection of Main/West Court all the way to the Greenwood County Courthouse. During construction, there may be times when parts of the street are closed to traffic.
AOS Specialty Services of Columbia has been awarded this project which includes new sidewalks, new decorative lighting, relocating utilities underground, new decorative crosswalks, and new landscaping.
Construction is anticpated to begin in late September/early October with a goal completion date sometime around Christmas. Please be prepared for lane closures and slower traffic in this area.
BEFORE
December 2011 - Progress is being made on the W. Court Avenue improvement funded from a Community Development Block Grant and Local Hospitality Taxes. We are hopeful this project will be completed in early 2012 (by February).
The Greenwood CPW electric department has completed a significant amount of work to place existing utility lines underground. They are also working to install the necessary underground conduit and service for new black acorn street lamps. Satterfield Construction has removed the top layer of asphalt in anticipation of the repaving of W. Court. The contractor has substantially completed the installation of a new water line. Additionally, the installation of new stormwater pipe is complete.
The contractor is currently demolishing the old curb and sidewalk along Nicholson/Anderson Law Offices and the Greenwood CPW. New concrete should begin going in this week. Curb and sidewalk demolition will begin on the opposite side (Townes Jones Law Offices) as soon as the eastbound side is completed. Below are a few pictures of the progression of the construction.

January 2012 - Construction continues on West Court Ave. with the installation of new decorative crosswalks at the intersection of West Court & Main (near McDonald Patrick & Tinsley Adams) and West Court & Monument (in front of the Courthouse). Sidewalks have been installed on both sides of the street with decorative brick pavers. New acorn street lights compliment these new sidewalks. Additionally, the entire road has been repaved.
Construction will continue into February with the installation of irrigation and landscaping.
