Food Network names Inn on the Square's corn muffins best in state

They’re a signature side to any Inn on the Square meal – and, they’re among the best you can find in America.

The Food Network has declared the hotel and restaurant’s peach corn muffins as one of the Palmetto State’s best dishes in its “States’ Plates” series.

“Over the past several months, we have had the pleasure to host several travel writers here at the Inn. To have been recognized by such a prestigious network is truly an honor for us all,” Inn on the Square General Manager Claire Griffith said. “We are proud of what we’ve accomplished and are excited to continue highlighting South Carolina’s agricultural resources.”

Inn on the Square owner Jim McGuinness, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, created the item not as an homage to the corn muffin’s place in southern cuisine, but as a tribute to the farming culture and significance of peaches as one of the state’s primary crops.

“Known for its unique texture and undeniable aroma, cornbread can be baked or fried and is typically served in cast iron skillets or as muffins. Inn on the Square in Greenwood takes homemade corn muffins up a Southern notch by adding local peaches to create their signature peach corn muffin,” the Food Network article said.
