South Carolina Festival of Discovery

Over 60 barbeque teams are expected to converge on beautiful Uptown Greenwood for the 8th Annual South Carolina Festival of Discovery.  In 2007 (see 2007 results), teams from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina filled Uptown with the incredible smell of barbeque.  The Festival has been proclaimed an Official South Carolina State Championship by Governor Mark Sanford.  The Festival is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) and includes four required categories: pork shoulder, pork ribs, beef brisket and chicken.  The professional competition will follow the 2008 KCBS rules and regulations. 

 

The Festival also features an amateur/backyard contest and celebrates the rich history of hash in Greenwood County by sponsoring a hash cookoff.  Additionally, the Festival features a 'Taster's Choice' competition where the general public critiques participating barbeque team samples that can be purchased for $1.

Any team wishing to vend during the Festival can do so by paying a $100 vending fee.  The Festival of Discovery does not utilize a ticket system for direct vending; therefore the Festival does not receive a percentage of your sales.  Vending teams are required to follow South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control food guidelines (pdf).
