Kick-Off the Holiday Season With Activities In Uptown Greenwood for the 2006 Holiday Open House
Greenwood, SC - Uptown Greenwood will be filled with local sounds and festivities Friday, November 10th through Sunday, November 12th as many events are planned to kick off the holiday season and allow folks to get a jump start on their holiday shopping. Uptown is partnering with numerous agencies and merchants to put together a mixture of cherished Uptown holiday traditions with an infusion of exciting new activities.
|According to Angie Jones, Manager of Uptown Greenwood Development Corporation, “The expanded events surrounding the annual Holiday Open House represent the hard work of numerous Uptown merchants and agencies. This is a wonderful example of the growing partnerships that continue to strengthen Uptown as the heart of the Greenwood community.”
The events kick off Friday, November 10th at 6 PM on the square adjacent to the Uptown Christmas Tree with a holiday concert by the Merrywood Honors Chorus. The chorus will sing a mix of holiday of tunes sure to delight everyone. The lighting of the Uptown Christmas Tree is scheduled for 6:30 PM by Mayor Floyd Nicholson. FREE carriage rides will also be available in Uptown Friday evening from 6-9 PM. The Museum will be hosting a reception for the Greenwood Artist Guild from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. Many Uptown merchants will extend their hours of operation to 9 PM to allow for holiday shoppers to peruse Uptown’s unique array of shops and boutiques.
Santa Claus is coming to Uptown on Saturday, at The Museum from 9 AM until Noon. Children can enjoy cookies with Santa and Memorie Makers Portrait Studio will be on hand to capture the special moment. There will also be a Veteran’s parade beginning at 10 AM through Uptown. The Arts Council is hosting a free Parent-Child art workshop at the Federal Building from 10 -11 AM, and the Arts Center is hosting a “Secret Santa Workshop” for special gifts ($10 and under). The Cambridge Singers from Cambridge Academy will keep shoppers in the holiday spirit by entertaining them with an array of holiday music beginning at 11 AM. FREE Carriage rides will also be offered from 1 PM – 4 PM to provide a fun service to those enjoying an afternoon of shopping in Uptown Greenwood.
Saturday evening from 5 – 8 PM, the Rock n’ Roll Cruisers Car Club will “cruise” into the Uptown Fountain Parking Lot to end their season with a holiday cruise-in, featuring the music of John Fleming. The Cruisers will also be hosting a “Salute to Veterans”. Also Saturday evening, the Arts Council will host a reception for the exhibit “Young Artists Among Us” at the Federal Building from 4 – 6 PM.
Sunday, the holiday shopping event continues as shops are open from 1:30 – 5:30. Enjoy FREE carriage rides through the Uptown Square from 1:30 – 4 PM
